Helme Edge Vineyard
Helme Edge Vineyard began as a gardening hobby, in our case on a steep west-facing slope behind the family home at Helme Edge Farm.
Helme Edge Vineyard is truly a family affair. Open for business in Spring 2025, it is owned and managed by three generations: father, daughter and grandson.
Our Vines and Wines
Our flagship wine, English Sparkling Solaris is made by the traditional Champagne method. Grapes are picked relatively early to ensure acidity. The wine is bright with a pleasing mousse and a fruity character.
Our Still Solaris is made from fully ripened grapes and gives a medium bodied wine with refreshing citrus and green apple flavours.
Our rosé is made from a blend of Cabernet Cortis, Rondo and Solaris. The wine is also medium bodied, with notes of fresh red berries.
Our principle grape is Solaris, a white variety developed in Germany. It is a member of a larger group of vines called PIWIS, an abbreviation of the German for ‘fungus resistant’. The planting of PIWIS allows a significant reduction in the usage of pesticides, protecting the environment and making a major contribution to our vineyard sustainability.
Our Tasting Events
You will be welcomed by a family member into our cozy bespoke tasting facility. You will hear a summary of our project and an introduction to English wines and developments in Yorkshire. Out in the vineyard you will learn how our vines are carefully nurtured to produce quality grapes from planting to maturity. Back in our tasting room you will hear about the processes of winemaking and taste our flagship sparkling Solaris and two still wines.
